Using the aharoam app, this website, or buying a pass means you accept these terms.
aharoam is run by Gesiyuan Ltd, registered in England and Wales. “We” and “us” mean Gesiyuan Ltd, and your agreement is with that company.
aharoam translates Chinese text that is already on your screen. A floating lens sits on top of the app you are reading; when you tap it, the app reads one frame of the screen, recognises the Chinese text inside the lens, has it translated, and draws the translation over the original.
aharoam is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any of the apps whose screens you translate.
You must be at least 16 years old, or older if the age of digital consent where you live is higher. The app is not directed at children.
Every install gets a limited number of free screens so you can see whether the app works on your phone and in the apps you use, before paying anything. The allowance belongs to the install: clearing the app’s data or reinstalling does not extend it, and we may adjust the number.
A pass is a single payment for a fixed run of days. It is not a subscription: nothing renews, nothing is charged again, and there is nothing to cancel when you are home.
The clock starts the first time you translate with the pass, not when you buy it. Buying three weeks before you fly does not spend any of the pass. Once it starts, it runs continuously for its full length — seven days or thirty days, depending on which you bought — whether or not you use it every day.
A pass is for one phone. Passes and activation codes are for your own use, are not transferable, and must not be sold, published, or shared.
Keep your activation code. Anyone holding it can activate your pass.
Payment is taken on the website by Stripe. We do not see or store your card details. Prices are shown on the pass page and are the prices that apply; taxes may be added at checkout depending on where you are.
Machine translation gets things wrong, and Chinese app interfaces are dense, abbreviated, and full of terms with no clean equivalent. aharoam is a reading aid. Do not rely on it alone for a decision that matters — medical, legal, financial, contractual, or anything to do with your safety. Check anything important with a person who reads Chinese.
The same goes for addresses and names. A street number recognised from a picture can be wrong, so check it against the app you read it from before you rely on it.
The app is in beta. Features can change or be withdrawn, and the service can be unavailable. Translating needs a working connection to our service; on a network that blocks it, translation will not work, though everything already saved on your phone still does.
We do not promise uninterrupted service. If we stop the service entirely while your pass is running, write to us and we will refund the unused part.
How the app handles information is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
Translations the app has already made are stored on your phone so a screen you meet again is instant. You can delete them at any time from the app.
The app is provided as it is. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or anything arising from a translation being wrong or the service being unavailable.
Our total liability to you — for everything, added together — is capped at the amount you actually paid us. If you have not paid us anything, we accept no liability.
Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot be removed by agreement.
We may update these terms when the app or how it is sold changes. The current version always lives at this address, and the date above tells you when it last moved. If a change materially reduces what you bought while your pass is running, the version in force when you bought it is the one that applies to that pass.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and it does not stop you bringing a claim in the courts there.
